CREVASSE
--------------------
A heavy crack of thunder broke
upon the deepest currents of my sleep,
so that suddenly I woke
As if by force, and with a drowsy gaze
looked about, then stood
to get a better sense of where I was,
And found myself at the edge of a steep rise
that dropped into an abyss of pain,
a vale of endless cries,
So clogged with murky air,
so dark, that though I strained to see
into its depths, I saw nothing there.
